Our story

In 2016, we took a leap of faith and bought our quarter section of land. Over the past 5 years, we’ve been building and creating a life here. We built a passive home in 2019 after spending a few years on yard work, planting trees, establishing our garden, and observing the landscape to know where a house would best fit into the landscape. If you’d like to read more about our passive house build project, you can read more at www.saskstainableliving.com. We are grateful to be stewards of this land and don’t take that responsibility lightly. We’re focused on learning about the natural landscape and incorporating regenerative and ecosystem-focused practices in all that we do!

Although we both grew up on family farms in southern Saskatchewan, we are not currently full time farmers. Matt is a plumber with VP Mechanical in Saskatoon and Jenna works in sustainability and climate change planning and renewable energy with Urban Systems Ltd. Farming is our passion from both a practical and philosophical perspective and we are excited to share our farming experiences and products with you.

Our farm

We are a 160 acre farm. Of that land, most of it is covered in aspen parkland forest, lakes, and waterbodies. There is currently 60 acres that is cultivated as hay land. We have been selling hay to a neighbour since we purchased the land. In 2022, we are looking forward to experimenting with seeding native and flowering crops on 20 acres of the land that is currently hay land. Our goal will be to plant perennial, late season flowering, hardy crops, that will support our bees and native pollinators in the region, while also improving soil nutrients and carbon sequestration.
